Protecting Yourself From Oral Health Hazards

Posted .

Although, you can’t always protect yourself from accidents that damage your mouth, you can take steps to minimize your risk. Some things you can do to protect your teeth include the following steps:

Try to be cautious with the foods you eat. Solid foods can easily crack or chip teeth, or even break them. Use caution when biting into hard foods. Also, try to avoid sticky or chewy foods, as the residue can increase your risk for tooth decay and gum disease.
If you participate in any contact sports or recreation, make sure that you wear the necessary gear to protect your mouth. This gear can include helmets, face masks, mouthguards, and head protectors.
Chewing tobacco, smoking, and recreational drugs put your oral health at risk.
