Identifying Wisdom Teeth

Posted .

At George Yzaguirre, DDS, PA, General Dentistry, we see wisdom teeth that need to be removed virtually every single day. Have you ever thought about if you need to have your wisdom teeth removed? We use a specific checklist evaluation to see whether patients need their wisdom teeth to be removed, and you can read all about it in this article. Please give us a call if you have any additional questions or concerns about wisdom teeth after you read this blog.

To decide whether you have wisdom teeth (and whether they need to be pulled), our dentist will look for the wisdom teeth behind your second molars. They will also ask you if you have felt any tenderness in this spot. If they don’t find any extruding wisdom teeth and you haven’t felt any uneasiness in your jaw, the dentist might opt to use a radiograph, also called an X-ray, to judge whether you have any wisdom teeth and where and how they would come out if so. With this information, your doctor will be able to tell you whether you have wisdom teeth.
